Ötzingen

Geography

Geographical location

The village is situated at the foot of Malbergs, a forested volcanic cone, which is located on the territory of the neighboring community Moschheim. Other neighboring municipalities are Leuterod, Niederahr, Oberahr, Ettinghausen, Kuhnhöfen, Niedersayn and Helferskirchen. On the outskirts along the meanders Aubach, which rises in about 3 km from the district Sainerholz.

As in the rest of the so-called Kannenbäckerland plays the clay mining in Ötzingen an important role. Just outside the resort is located to fit a production facility for world-famous Tonmosaike.

History

The name is derived from the Old High German Uitzingen and probably means something like " Children of the Uitzo or Utz ". The suffix "- ingen" suggests that at the time of the Conquest, this area was already cleared or no forest was found. Religion

The vast majority of the population is Roman Catholic. In the village is the branch church of Mary Help of which belongs to the parish Leuterod ( Diocese of Limburg). The 200 evangelical Christians are looked after by the Evangelical Martin Luther Church community Wirges (Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau ).
