Oberahr

Oberahr is a municipality in the Westerwald district in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Wallmerod.

Geographical location

The community lies in the Westerwald between Montabaur and Hachenburg. Through the town flows from north to south of the Ahrbach.

History

Oberahr, 1490 Oberanre, located in the headwaters of Ahrbaches, which is mentioned as Anara already 959. He gives the church its name and flows through the district Oberahr from north to south. Oberahr stood in the former Niederlahngau since early time in the parish and court Meudt under the territorial sovereignty of the Counts of Diez and Nassau. By Diezer treaties of 1564 the parish Meudt came to the Electorate of Trier and so the Oberahrer lived in " Trierschland " to 1802 under the rule of the country " crosier ". Then the princes of Nassau took the right of the Rhine repossess and from 1806 also belonged to the newly formed Duchy of Nassau Oberahr. After its annexation in 1866 Oberahr came to the Prussian province of Hesse -Nassau.

Coat of arms

The blazon is: " From silver and blue cleaved by wave cut, on a blue and gold split three mountain front, a red continuous cross, topped with a golden crosier ending in a flame. Back of a growing golden spike a growing golden book sheet ".

In the local coat of arms is the Ahrbach, and hence the local name, symbolized by the cleavage by wave cut. At the former rulers Nassau and Trier remember in the local coat of arms Coat of Nassau colors blue - gold and the red " Trier Cross" in Silver. Directly through the village runs the federal highway 255 which Montabaur and Rennerod connects. The nearest motorway junction is Montabaur on the Autobahn 3 (Cologne - Frankfurt ), about 7 kilometers away. The nearest train station is in ICE Montabaur at the high-speed line Cologne-Rhine/Main.
