Steinefrenz is a municipality in the Westerwald district in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Wallmerod.

Geographical location

The community lies in the Westerwald between Montabaur and Limburg an der Lahn. Through the town flows the Eisenbach.

History

Steinefrenz was first mentioned as Brencede documented in the year 959. The village belonged until 1803 to the Electorate of Trier and was assigned to the Office Montabaur. Steinefrenz belonged to the parish Hundsangen and had 1786 203 inhabitants.

After the dissolution of the electorate and the Imperial Diet of 1803, the previous Kurtrierische Office Montabaur was, therefore Steinefrenz, the Principality of Nassau -Weilburg and was awarded after the founding of the Confederation of the Rhine (1806 ) to the Duchy of Nassau. During the naussauischen government Steinefrenz belonged to the Official Meudt in the district Ehrenbreitstein later to the Official Wallmerod. From 1866 to 1945 Steinefrenz belonged to the Prussian province of Hesse -Nassau and was part of Unterwesterwald circle.

The local council in Steinefrenz consists of twelve council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms description reads: " Late Gothic Buckler, under golden head of the shield, is a four wavy blue bar, shield split, front silver in a continuous red cross in the back of a red -handled ax to the left".

The blue wave bar in the main shield symbolizes the Eisenbach, who have four shafts, the four existing mills, the colors blue and gold out the former belonging to Nassau; the red cross is taken from the coat of arms Kurtrierer; the golden ax is the attribute of the patron saint of the church, St. Matthias dar.
