Geography

The community lies in the Westerwald between Montabaur and Wetzlar. Through the town from north to south flows the Eisenbach. To Berod at Wallmerod includes the residential places Bruchhäuser mill dam and mill.

History

Berod first recorded in 1292 as Berrinrode documented in a necrology of the Canons Dietkirchen. The word ending -rode here refers to the medieval deforestation for the production of arable and pasture land between 800 and 1200. The first chapel in Berod must have already been built in 1150-1200. The west tower of the present church was already part of the building. The chapel and the place belonged to the parish Hundsangen. 1729 Baroque reconstruction of the chapel was completed in 1900 and the conversion to the present structure of the church. 1762 Berod had become part of a parish with Wallmerod and Ruppach. 1790 Ruppach was replaced by Zehnhausen. 1963 Wallmerod left the parish and in 1976 was replaced by Molsberg.
