Molsberg

Molsberg is a municipality in the Westerwald district in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Wallmerod.

Geographical location

The community lies in the Westerwald on the border of the neighboring state of Hesse.

History

Molsberg was first documented in 1030. Since 1030 and up to the middle of the 18th century (405 m) were there the men of Molsberg on the northern slope of the calibration mountain resident in their castle. A model of the castle can still be seen today in Molsberg castle. The noble family of Walderdorff was established since 1657 in Molsberg.

Parish council

The local council in Molsberg consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Coat of arms

The place carries a coat of arms with a silver lion on a red background. This coat of arms was shown to be related to the court seal from 1662. For the first time a coat of arms of the noble lords of Molsberg was mentioned in 1347. It shows a silver lion in a red field with a golden tongue, accompanied by a blue collar dreilätzigen tournament.

Culture and sights

In the village center is the renovated former village school from 1830, which now serves as the village hall. Across from her former home of the mayor is in a more than 300 -year-old half-timbered house.

The Molsberg castle was built in 1760 on the site of the former castle and has a park with monumental trees.

Regular events

  • At Pentecost, the traditional Whitsun fair is celebrated.
  • On Whit Monday an open-air Mass is celebrated in the courtyard in fine weather; then takes place in the Castle Avenue under the old lime trees of the Counts of Walderdorff a brunch with air concert instead.
  • In summer, the coffee house the afternoon of culture aid the municipality Wallmerod takes place in the castle of the Counts of Allee Walderdorff.
  • The traditional Molsberger market is held on the last Sunday in September.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

Located just west of the town the main road runs 8, Limburg an der Lahn and Hennef ( victory ) connects. The nearest motorway junction is Diez at the Federal Highway 3 (Cologne - Frankfurt ), about 10 kilometers away. The nearest ICE stations are in Montabaur or Limburg an der Lahn in the high-speed line Cologne-Rhine/Main.

  • Adalbert II of Walderdorff (1697-1759) was Bishop of Fulda.
  • Johann IX. Philipp von Walderdorff (1701-1768) was from 1756 to 1768 Archbishop and Elector of Trier, and from 1763 to 1768 at the same time the Prince-Bishop of Worms.
  • Wild Carl Erich von Walderdorff (1799-1863) was from 1834 to 1842 Minister of State of the Duchy of Nassau.
  • Kaspar Koegler (1838-1923) was a German painter and writer.
  • Wolfgang Kaufmann (born 1964 ) is a German racing driver.
