Bilkheim

Bilkheim is a municipality in the Westerwald district in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Wallmerod.

Geographical location

Bilkheim is located about 13 km north-east of Montabaur in a valley, directly on the border with Hesse. The sheep creek rises above the village, flows laterally past Bilkheim and empties into the Walmeroder stream, which in turn shortly thereafter flows into the salt creek.

History

First mentioned as Bullincheym Bilkheim was the noble Dietrich von Bramstedt to Neurod in 1345th

In 1828, the first urn from the Hallstatt culture ( 700-500 before Christ ) were discovered on the " infidel." The old houses along the main street are mostly bought and inhabited by "new" Bilkheimern. The descendants of the "old" Bilkheimer pull out of the village and build in the adjacent building areas.
