Ove Sprogøe

Ove Sprogøe (actually Ove Wendelboe Sprogøe Petersen, born December 21, 1919 in Odense, † 14 September 2004 in Tårnby on Amager ) was a Danish actor. He became internationally known for his role of Egon Olsen in 14 Olsen Gang films.

Life

Ove Sprogøe in 1919 as the son of typographer Hans Arthur Sprogøe Petersen ( 1884-1967 ) and his wife Inger Marie Lund ( 1888-1959 ) was born. Since the late 1920s the family lived in Copenhagen. He married Eva Rasmussen in 1945. Initially, he worked as a clerk and took private acting lessons. Twice Sprogøe tried in vain to be accepted at the Drama School of the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen. In 1944 he passed the entrance examination at the drama school of Folketeatret, a Copenhagen private theater, and began his education there. Sprogøe debuted in 1945 on the stage and in 1946 in the movie. In addition to numerous major theater roles Ove Sprogøe became known in the film until the 1970s, mainly as a comedy actor. This includes the fourteen Olsenbande Movies (1968-1981 and 1998 ) on the side of Poul Bundgaard and Morten Grunwald. In the TV series Matador, he also played the Doctor Louis Hansen.

Ove Sprogøe starred in 166 movies and television films and thus is regarded as the most prolific Danish film actor. He was four times honored with the Danish Film Award Bodil (1956 Best Actor in På tro og love, in 1972 as Best Actor in The forsvundne fuldmægtig, 1975 for best actor in The (probably ) last match of the Olsen Gang and 1999 for his life's work ).
