Övertorneå

Övertorneå (Finnish Matarenki ) is a place ( tätort ) in the northern Swedish province of Norrbotten County and the historic province of Norrbotten. It is located about 70 km north- west of Haparanda on the Torne River near the Finnish border, and is the capital of the municipality of the same name.

Övertorneå is trade and service town for the middle Tornedalen. In Övertorneå the Nordkalottenbibliothek is a collection of ancient and modern literature on the region. A small open-air museum is situated north of the church from the 17th century.
