Owen Beck

Owen Le Franc Beck ( born May 31, 1976 in Negril, Jamaica) is a Jamaican heavyweight boxer. His nickname is What the Heck. He is the American promoter Don King under contract. His son Carl King is his manager.

Professional career

Beck began his professional career in 1998. After 24 successful professional fights against mostly unknown structure opponents (including Taurus Sykes ), he got despite doubts about his athletic skills on 5 February 2005 the possibility of in an eliminator for the first ranking position of the associations WBC and IBF against to compete in Don King under contract Monte Barrett and to acquire by winning the right to a title fight against the champion of these associations.

However, Beck lost by TKO in the ninth round.

Even in his next fight on 3 September 2005, he suffered another defeat against the supervised also by Don King 35 -year-old Ray Austin. This time he lost just on points.

On 7 January 2006, he won the light heavyweight against Darnell Wilson.

Although Owen Beck could defeat still no boxer who figured in independent rankings at the time of the fight in the Top 100, but lost twice but against such opponents, he was recognized by WBA titlist Nikolai Valuev and his promoter Wilfried Sauerland as a worthy challenger.
