Pacific Games

The Pacific Games (English: Pacific Games, formerly the South Pacific Games ) are regularly held in the South Pacific sports competition events. They were introduced at the suggestion of Dr. Sahu Khan and discharged in 1963 in Suva (Fiji). Decisive role in the success of the Games was the first Director of the organization, FJ Coyne.

The Pacific Games are organized by the Pacific Games Council, which is, from the Executive Committee, the committees, as well as organized in the Pacific Games Association national for the Pacific Games competent sports federations (usually the NOCs, but partly also special units for the Pacific Games where, as in Micronesia, are no separate NOCs ) composed

The course is very strongly based on the Olympic Games ( Opening Ceremony, Flag, entry of the athletes ... )

M. Turukawa, shot putter from Fiji, was the first winner of a gold medal at the South Pacific Games. In a total of 60 decisions Fiji won 34 gold medals. In 2007, the South Pacific Games football tournament served as the first round of the OFC Nations Cup 2008.

The last South Pacific Games were held in 2007 in Samoa. After the closing ceremony on September 8, 2007, the name of the game was changed to Pacific Games. The next Pacific Games will be held in 2015 in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. For the 40th anniversary of the independence of Papua New Guinea is to be appreciated.

So far 6396 medals were awarded in 13 Pacific Games since 1963. 24 nations were able to win medals. By far the most successful team is the New Caledonian, who won a total of 1636 medals, including 655 gold medals.

The rankings are sorted by the number of gold medals won, followed by the number of silver and bronze medals. If two or more countries, an identical medal on balance, they are called alphabetically by state name.
