Padrón
Padrón (formerly Iria Flavia ) is a municipality in the Spanish province of A Coruña the Autonomous Community of Galicia.
History
The city's name derives from Pedrón, a Roman milestone on the banks of the estuary, where according to legend moored the ship that transported the body of the apostle James. This Pedrón is located in the Church today padrons.
There, in the church of Santiago Apóstol, also can visit ancient stone inscriptions on the saint's legend, and led by Archbishop Gelmirez reconstruction of the church.
Personalities who were active in Padrón
With Padrón to connect the names of important personalities of Galician literature as el Enamorado Macías, Juan Rodríguez de Padrón, Camilo José Cela or Rosalía de Castro. These spent her final years in the house " La Matanza " in the suburbs, has been converted into its museum.
Local dishes
Padrón has given a court of Galician cuisine to its name: the pimientos de Padrón.
Titular
The ancient Iria Flavia is now the name for a titular of the Roman Catholic Church; current titular is the retired Auxiliary Bishop of Aachen Gerd thickness.
