Papyrus 40

Papyrus 40 ( Gregory- Aland Sigel 40 referred ) is a early Greek copy of the New Testament. It is a papyrus manuscript of Romans contains the verses 1:24-27; 1.31 to 2.3; 3.21 to 4.8; 6,4-5.16; 9,16-17.27. Using palaeography, it has been dated to the 3rd century. It was written carelessly.

The Greek text of this codex is a representative of the Alexandrian text-type (or rather a proto- Alexandrian text-type ). Kurt Aland described him as "free text" and placed it in Category I because of his age.

The manuscript is closer to Codex Sinaiticus as the Codex Alexandrinus and Vaticanus.
