Paraná (state)

The state of Paraná (abbreviated PR) is located in the south of Brazil. It is divided into six main regions with 399 municipalities ( " municipios ").

Geography

The area is 199,554 km ², its population approximately 10.2 million, the population density is about 48 persons per square kilometer.

The state is bordered on the west by Argentina and Paraguay. In the East Paraná is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the north by the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso do Sul and São Paulo, the south by the State of Santa Catarina. It is named after the river Paraná, which forms its western border.

The capital is Curitiba. She has even nicknamed the " Capital of Ecology" given and is known inter alia by an exemplary public transport system.

Ethnic Groups

White make up approximately 79 % of the population. The white population came mostly from European countries as immigrants in the early 19th century, mostly from Portugal, Poland, Italy, Germany and Ukraine to Paraná. Beginning of the 20th century was followed by immigrants from Japan, Lebanon and Syria.

Economy and Agriculture

In Paraná, inter alia, numerous automobile manufacturers have set up production plants.

The state is considered Brazil 's most important agricultural producer and supplies of corn, cotton, wheat, soy, rice, peanuts and beans. Pigs and poultry are - as well as in the two southern neighboring states of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul - also presented in Paraná.

History and Culture
