Action

The plot revolves around the police officer Aya Brea and the opera singer Melissa Pearce in the city of New York. Melissa mutates into another being, which from this point describes himself as Eve because of their evolutionary highly developed mitochondria. The plot in the game is primarily concerned that the mitochondria in Melissa / Eve's body have gained its own consciousness and try to replace humans as the dominant species in the world.

Eve has the ability to instill the mitochondria of people or animals their will. So they can let it rise, for example, thanks to the mitochondria a man on fire, which is also shown very impressive in a video sequence. In addition, the mitochondria have the ability to make changes to their "host " at the cellular level: So you see, for example, shortly after the beginning of the game, like a rat mutated to grow to 10 times their normal size, and her tail in three parts splits. For some reason, Aya, however, is immune to this influence, which is also clarified later in the game. Aya can start using their immune mitochondria powerful attacks that can be described as in a classical RPG dismiss it as magic. Aya tries in turn to dissuade with a vengeance Eve from their purpose.

Background

Parasite Eve was released almost exactly halfway between the seventh and eighth Final Fantasy part, giving the game einhandelte the image of a " stopgap " before. As the game technically, however, was of such high quality ( for that time ), it could shake off the image quite quickly. Parasite Eve includes impressive FMV sequences that could be described as groundbreaking at the time quite.

The game itself is graphically kept similar to Final Fantasy VII or the Resident Evil series: polygon characters run on a precalculated background. The game system is, however, difficult to compare with the first two titles; can in fights like in Resident Evil at all times be moved, but the battle is not action- emphasized, but like more strategy -heavy in Final Fantasy: it can not at any time be fired, you have to wait only until a timeline is filled. Generally the game like an RPG is set up, so there are, for example, hitpoints, fights are like Final Fantasy in a fight sequence made and for defeating enemies, there are experience points.

The game was released on 29 March 1998 in Japan and on 9 September 1998 in the United States. On 4 November 2010 it was made in Japan also in the PlayStation Network to download and on March 15, 2011 in the United States.
