Pat Hingle

Martin Patterson " Pat" Hingle ( born July 19, 1924 in Denver, Colorado; † January 3, 2009 in Carolina Beach, North Carolina ) was an American actor. Special recognition he reached with the role of Commissioner James Gordon in the four films in the first Batman series.

Life & Career

Pat Hingle was born on 19 July 1924 as the son of a building contractor and a school teacher. Since his parents were already divorced when he was still a toddler, he had his father never got to know practically and lived with his mother, who supplied as a teacher in Denver the family. Later she moved on in search of more lucrative work frequently to, and until the completion of his 13th year of life Hingle had lived in more than a dozen cities. First contact with acting, he had already been in the third grade, in a school play, he played a carrot.

Hingle graduated from the High School and attended the University of Texas in 1941. During the Second World War he served in the U.S. Navy on the destroyer USS Marshall. After his military time he returned to the University and was to meet with the intention of girls, a member of the drama group.

Along with his first wife, Alyce, who he met at the University, he moved to New York where he got his first engagements on the stage and in television since 1948. The highlight of his career at that time made ​​his participation in the play JB by Archibald MacLeish. During this time, Hingle had a serious accident, he rushed into the elevator shaft of his New York apartment building and suffered life -threatening injuries. He floated two weeks in acute danger to life and lost the little finger of his left hand, his full recovery took about a year.

In his long career Hingle played frequently judges, police officers and other authority figures. His most popular role is that of Police Commissioner James W. Gordon from the Batman films by Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher. Apart from his fellow actor Michael Gough, who played Alfred the butler, he is the only actor who participated in all four films.

Last Pat Hingle lived with his second wife Julia in Kure Beach, North Carolina. He died on January 3, 2009 in Carolina Beach.
