Patrick Lindsay (politician)

Patrick James Lindsay ( Irish Pádraig Ó Loingsigh; * January 18, 1914, † June 29, 1993 ) was an Irish politician of the Fine Gael.

Biography

Lindsay, who worked as a lawyer, was elected in 1954 as the candidate of the Fine Gael member of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ) and represented there by his re-election from 1957 to 1961, the interests of the constituency of North Mayo. On 2 July 1956 he was Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) John A. Costello to the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of the Irish-speaking areas ( Gaeltacht ) appointed. After a cabinet reshuffle, he was finally on 24 October 1956 to the end of Costello's term of office on March 20, 1957 Minister for the Gaeltacht itself.

After 1961 election defeat suffered and retired from the House of Commons, he became in 1961 a member of the Senate ( Seanad Eireann ) and represented in this group until 1965, the industrial and finance. He was also Vice- President of the Senate ( Leas Cathaoirleach ).

At the general election in 1965, he was again elected a member of Dáil Éireann, where he again represented the constituency of North Mayo until his re- election defeat in 1969.
