Patrick Rothfuss

Patrick Rothfuss ( born June 6, 1973 in Madison, Wisconsin, United States) is an American fantasy writer.

Life

1991 Patrick Rothfuss began his studies at the University of Wisconsin -Stevens Point, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1999. At Washington State University he continued his studies and graduated with a Master of Arts. Two years later he returned to Stevens Point and teaches at the University of Wisconsin since the subject English. In March 2007 he published his first book, The Name of the Wind, which has won several awards in the same year as the best book of the year and among others, the Quill Award. In presenting the German translation published in 2008, The Name of the Wind Denis Scheck evaluated in his mission Druckfrisch the book as " the most compelling fantasy since Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings ".

According to his website, he was often because of the bad weather and in the absence of cable TV for enthusiastic readers. His long years of study was characterized by changing priorities, which should enable it only for chemical engineering later to a career in clinical psychology. Last was his objective study also officially known as " unexplained ", and he just studied everything that interested him. During this time he took many odd jobs. He started for the campus newspaper column the College Survival Guide to write what he holds to this day, and at the same time work on a very long fantasy novel entitled The Song of Flame and Thunder take. After completion of the novel, he laid him without success several publishers before, but won with an excerpt from it ( The Road to Levinshir ) viewed under the science fiction writers Writers of the Future competition in 2002 in the 2nd quarter. It was not until a conversation with Kevin J. Anderson in an author's workshop secured him a contract with literary agent Matt Bialer, which finally succeeded in the novel to the publisher DAW Books for sale - but now created as a trilogy, and under the new title The King Killer Chronicle, which the Name of the Wind is the first part.
