Patrik Sundström

Patrik Sundström ( born December 14, 1961 in Skellefteå ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey player who played in his playing days from 1978 to 1994 among others for the Vancouver Canucks and New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League.

Career

Patrik Sundström began his career as a hockey player with the IF Björklöven, for the first team, he made his debut in the Elitserien in the 1978/79 season. With his team, the attacker was defeated in the 1981/82 season AIK Ishockey in the finals at the Swedish Championship. He was then, summoned by the Vancouver Canucks, who had selected him in the NHL Entry Draft in 1980 in the ninth round as the 175th overall player to North America, where he was in his rookie year in the National Hockey League for the Canadians in a total of 78 games 23 goals achieved and also gave many templates. After five years with the Canucks, the Swede was issued on 15 September 1987 together with a second - and fourth- round vote in the NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Kirk McLean, Greg Adams and a second-round vote on the New Jersey Devils, for which he also five seasons long stood on the ice. He also graduated in the 1991/92 season a game in the American Hockey League for New Jersey's farm team, the Utica Devils.

In the summer of 1992, Sundström returned to his native Sweden, where he received a contract with his former club IF Björklöven from the then Division 1 second-rate, with whom he achieved promotion to the Elitserien. In this, the center achieved in the 1993/94 season in 16 games eleven scorer points, including four goals, before he ended his career.

Internationally

For Sundström Sweden took part in the U20 World Junior Championships in 1980 and 1981. In addition, he was in the squad of Sweden at the World Championships in 1981 and 1982.

Sundström Elon father and his twin brother, Peter, were as professional hockey players, like his uncle, Kjell. His son Alexander is currently playing at Brynäs IF in the Swedish Elitserien.
