Paul Aymé

Paul Aymé ( born July 29, 1869 in Marseille, † July 25, 1962 in Madrid) was a French tennis player.

Career

In the years 1897-1900 Aymé won the Championnat de France International de Tennis (now French Open ) four times in a row, which according to him so far only the Swede Björn Borg ( 1978-1981 ) and Spaniard Rafael Nadal ( this even twice in 2005 up to 2008 and 2010-2013 ) succeeded.

In 1897 he wins against the British Francky Vardan in four sets 6:7, 7:5, 6:3 and 6:1. 1898 defeated the French Aymé Paul Lebreton in five sets with 0:6, 6:1, 6:0, 5:7 and 8:6 and 1899 in five sets with 9:7, 5:7, 6:0, 9: 11 and 7:5. In 1900, he won against Frenchman Alain Prévost in a balanced final in three sets 6:4, 10:8 and 24:22.

Only Max Decugis and Rafael Nadal of eight, Bjorn Borg with six and Henri Cochet with five titles were in Roland Garros successful than he.

Aymé was one of the best French tennis players of his time.
