Paul Baender
Paul tapes ( born November 30, 1906 in Rosdzin ( circle Katowice, Silesia ), † 18 December 1985, Berlin) was a German politician of the Communist Party of Germany ( KPD), the Socialist Unity Party of Germany ( SED) and State Secretary in the Ministry of Trade and supply of the GDR. He was arrested in 1952 in the wake of the Slansky process, excluded from the SED, remained in detention until 1956 and was incorporated in 1957 back to the SED.
Life
The son of a German - Jewish merchant and shopkeeper moved in 1922 to the family of the Polish Rosdzin to Görlitz order. There, ended Paul tapes in 1925 an apprenticeship as a merchant in a weaving mill, went to Hamburg and then worked from 1927 as a salesman in Görlitz department store. He joined the beginning of 1927 from the Jewish religious community, and shortly thereafter in the KPD one. Recorded had him Wollweber and Arthur Ullrich. After losing his job, the KPD began tapes as a party functionary found on several places in Silesia. The end of 1932 took the tapes political management of the district Boleslawiec.
From February to May 1933 he was a member and instructor of the KPD district leadership Silesia. In the same year emigrated tapes in Czechoslovakia and settled in Prague. In 1937 he was expelled from Czechoslovakia and lived until 1947 in Bolivia. From 1939 to 1947 tapes Vice- President of the Committee of the Free German in Bolivia and head of a popular front group in La Paz Until December 1943 tapes worked at the radio station Radio Libertad in La Paz and in 1943 co-founder of the Association of Alemania Democrática en Bolivia as the umbrella organization of German exiles in Bolivia. Tapes played for Bolivia in the 8th Chess Olympiad in Buenos Aires in 1939.
In November 1947 tapes returned to Germany and became a member in the Organization Department of the Central Secretariat of the SED and from April 1949 General Manager of Trade Organisation ( HO) in the GDR. From 1950 to 1952 tapes Secretary, Ministry of Trade and supply the GDR. Until 1953 he was also President of the predecessor organization of the German Chess Federation ( DSV ) of the GDR.
On November 21, 1952, the Ministry of State Security arrested ( Stasi), the couple tapes in connection with the Slánský process and the affair of Paul Merker and Noel H. Field. The loudspeaker, were relieved of all functions and excluded from the SED. Besides tapes also the Minister of Trade and Supply Karl Hamann ( Liberal Democratic Party ) and the State Secretary Rudolf Albrecht was arrested (DBD ). Allen was accused of years of sabotage. In the central remand prison of the Stasi tapes was interrogated by Soviet investigators and officers of the MfS, while psychologically tortured. In May 1954, he was initially sentenced to twelve years in prison, which were reduced three weeks later to six years in prison. Tapes sat until April 1956 at the Brandenburg prison, then was pardoned and was released.
From 1956 to 1959 tapes was head of the district administration of HO- industry goods king Wusterhausen in oak forest. In February 1957, the expulsion from the SED was lifted. In 1959 and 1960 tapes manager director of the municipal wholesale company fruits and vegetables in East Berlin. From 1961 to 1967 he was head of the HO- department store at Alexanderplatz in Berlin. From 1967 to 1971 tapes was a research associate of the Department of Trade and Supply. In 1971 he retired.
