Paul Conrad

Paul Conrad (* June 27, 1924 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; † 4 September 2010 in Rancho Palos Verdes ) was an American cartoonist.

Career

Conrad studied art in Seattle and earned a BA in 1950 in Art from the University of Iowa. Since then he has worked for various newspapers, of which around 30 years for the Los Angeles Times. Conrad caricatured several U.S. presidents, especially Richard Nixon.

Conrad wrote several books and his work can be seen in the permanent collection of the Library of Congress.

He was three times awarded the Pulitzer Prize (1964, 1971 and 1984) excellent for Editorial Cartooning. In addition, Conrad won twice the Overseas Press Club awards (1981 and 1970) and in 1988 awarded him the Society of Professional Journalists / Sigma Delta Chi ( SDX ) to the seventh Distinguished Service Award for Editorial Cartooning from.

Conrad was married to Kay King, a society reporter for The Denver Post. They had two sons and two daughters.
