Paul de Thermes

Paul de la Barthe, seigneur de Thermes (* 1482 in Bordeaux, † May 6, 1562 in Paris) was a French military commander and Marshal of France.

Life

La Barthe came from an old noble family in Gascony. He distinguished himself for the first time during the siege of Naples ( 1528) from. After that, he was captured by Islamic pirates, but released for ransom. 1544 he got into Ceresole Alba captured again. La Barthe defended Parma in 1550 against the imperial army. La Barthe, who retired at the age of 75 years, bowed at his warfare at times to recklessness, which in its last Battle of Gravelines ( 1558 ) had led to the defeat.
