Paul Joseph Nussbaum

Paul Joseph Nussbaum CP ( born September 7, 1870 in Philadelphia, † June 24, 1935 ) was an American clergyman and Bishop of Sault Sainte Marie and Marquette.

Life

Paul Joseph Nussbaum joined the Passionist one received on 20 May 1894, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

Pope Pius X appointed him on 4 April 1913, the first bishop of the diocese was founded a year earlier Corpus Christi. He received his episcopal consecration of the Apostolic Delegate in the United States, Archbishop Giovanni Vincenzo Bonzano, on 20 May of the same year; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Newark, John Joseph O'Connor, and the Bishop of Brooklyn, Charles Edward McDonnell. The inauguration of the Diocese of Corpus Christi followed on June 8, 1913.

Due to the persecution of the church after the Mexican Revolution several hundred priests and religious who arrived during Nussbaum's tenure in the young diocese. Walnut built the Franciscans operated by Duns Scotus College in Hebbronville, in which seminarians were trained for Mexico.

On April 22, 1920 Nussbaum resigned as Bishop of Corpus Christi and was appointed Titular Bishop of Gerasa.

Pope Pius XI. appointed him on 14 November 1922 Bishop of Sault Sainte Marie and Marquette.
