Pavel Lisitsian

Pawel Gerassimowitsch Lisizian (Russian Павел Герасимович Лисициан; born November 6, 1911 in Vladikavkaz; † 6 July 2004 in Moscow) was a Russian- Armenian baritone. He was regarded internationally as the leading Soviet opera and lieder singer of voice of his generation.

Lisizian studied at the Leningrad Conservatory and made his debut in 1935 at Mali ( "small " ) theater. In 1937 he sang at the Opera Yerevan, in 1940 he was for a quarter-century member of the troupe of the Bolshoi Theatre. In the 1950s and 1960s there were numerous shots in which Lisizian shone alongside the greatest of his colleagues (travel, Nelepp, Arkhipova, Vishnevskaya ). The singer has performed in the West, even at the Metropolitan Opera. After the end of his singing career, he devoted himself for a time to teaching.

Lisizians voice was characterized by a particularly powerful emission and a very pure, metallic timbre, like a trumpet, from. His word emphasis and articulation were very accurate.

In 1988 he was awarded with the Order of the GDR Star of Friendship of Nations in gold.
