Paxson is a census -designated place in the Valdez - Cordova Census Area, Alaska. The village is situated on the Gulkana River between Paxson Lake and Summit Lake, 90 km north of Gakona and 100 km south of Delta Junction. The Denali Highway branches off from the Richardson Highway at Paxson.

History

More than 400 archaeological sites indicate the presence of indigenous peoples of Alaska in the region around present-day Paxson for more than 10,000 years.

Established in 1906, Alvin Paxson the Timberline Roadhouse at mile 192, which consisted of a small log cabin, in which the kitchen was housed, and two tents as bunkhouses. The chef of this rest-house, Charles Meier, made later to the Meier 's Roadhouse at 174 Meil independently. Alvin Paxson responded with a two-story building at mile 191

Later it emerged a post office, a shop and a few other buildings. In the 1950s, the Denali Highway from Paxson to Cantwell was built.

In no Paxson Alaska Natives live. The inhabitants are mostly road workers who are engaged in the maintenance of highways.
