Pedro Arico Suárez

Pedro Bonifacio Suárez Pérez ( born June 5, 1908 in Las Palmas, † April 18, 1979 in Buenos Aires ) was a Spanish- Argentine football player, who participated with the national team of Argentina at the World Cup in Uruguay in 1930.

Career

Suárez was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, but emigrated at a young age with his parents to Argentina.

He began his career at the Argentine Club Ferro Carril Oeste. The now second-rate club from Buenos Aires counted in the 20's to the top clubs in the country. There Suárez attracted the attention of Boca Juniors. With the team from the slums of La Boca, Argentina still the likes of Diego Maradona, Gabriel Batistuta and Juan Sebastian Veron were active in the later, Suárez won the Argentine championship five times. Suárez was the first time with the team in 1930 against Estudiantes de La Plata in the table first. A year later, the club was able to defend his title, this time it was first before CA San Lorenzo. In the following season they lost the title to local rivals River Plate, Boca Juniors were only fourth. As a runner-up the previous season, they made sure the title again in 1934 before CA Independiente. The following year, one could defend the Argentine title again before Independiente. A fifth championship with Boca Juniors took Pedro Suárez 1940.

With the Argentina national football team Suárez participated in the first World Cup in history, 1930, in part. In Uruguay, Argentina reached the final, failed there but against the hosts with 2:4. At the World Cup Suárez passed his first of a total of 12 international matches in which he scored a goal. It was also used in the final Centenario, but did not fall very on. He made his last international match 1940. Two years later, he finished his career.
