Pedro Weingärtner

Pedro Weingartner ( born July 26, 1853 in Porto Alegre, † December 26, 1929 ) was a Brazilian painter.

Life

Weingartner was born in Porto Allegre in a German immigrant family. In 1878 he traveled from Brazil to Germany and studied art at the Grossherrzoglich Baden Art School in Karlsruhe. There he was taught the German artist Ferdinand Keller, Theodor Poeckh and Ernst Hildebrand. 1880 Weingartner moved to Berlin for further studies and 1882 he went to Paris. Later he returned to Brazil and was in his generation into a major painter of Brazil, where he last lived in Porto Alegre.
