Introduced in the fall of 2004 digital SLR camera Pentax * ist DS is a further development of the Pentax * ist D. This model reinforces beginners should be addressed in the digital SLR photography.

Pentax * ist Ds2 and Samsung GX -1S

In August 2005, Pentax announced a slightly modified successor model, which was originally intended only for the non-European market. The salient feature of the Pentax * ist Ds2 over its predecessor is an enlarged 2.5 -inch monitor. Additional firmware changes the * ist Ds2 presented for the Pentax * Ds is available. In Europe, initially only the identical sister model Samsung GX -1S offered, however, brought the fall of 2006, the * istDs2 in the trade.
