The south of the town consists of a barracks complex, in which is located the headquarters of the training area Salto di Quirra. This includes the launch site Capo San Lorenzo on the coast. Around two kilometers east of Perdasdefogu is a small airfield.

The Sardinian name Perdas de Fogu (Italian pietre di fuoco ) roughly means flint or burning hot stone. The inhabitants call themselves Foghesi or foghesini.
