Silver Perowskie ( Perovskia atriplicifolia )

The Perowskien or Perovskien ( Perovskia ) are a genus of ten species from among the mint family ( Lamiaceae), which grow in semi- shrubs. The natural range of the species is in Asia. Some species are used as ornamental shrubs.

Description

The species of the genus Perovskia grow as aromatic scented subshrubs. The twigs and buds are hairless or densely covered with gray-white stellate hairs. Terminal buds are missing. The leaves are opposite arranged, entire, sawn or pinnatisect.

The flowers grow to two to four, rarely up to six in Scheinwirteln. At this young branches are united in 30 to 45 centimeters long, terminal panicle inflorescences. The flowers are sessile or short-stalked. The calyx is bell-shaped, densely hairy and double lip. The upper lip is more or less entire to tridentate, bidentate, the lower lip, very hairy and inflated to the fruit time. The corolla is blue-violet, rose -colored, yellowish or rarely white, twice as long as the calyx, funnel- shaped, two-lipped. The upper lip is not equal vierlappig with two smaller middle lobes, the lower lip is oval - ovate and entire. There are four stamens formed, two of which are fertile and spread, two sterile, small, and lying under the upper lip. The ovary is zweifächrig and divided by partitions into four additional Klausen. As fruits of four brown, obovate, blunt and bald nutlets are formed, which are surrounded by white, felty chalice.

Dissemination

The distribution area of the species is in Asia, ranging from the north-east of Iran as far as Baluchistan and the North West of the Himalayas.

Systematics and history of research

The Perowskien ( Perovskia ) are a genus in the mint family ( Lamiaceae). There they are assigned in the subfamily Nepetoideae the tribe Mentheae. The genus was first described by Grigori Silych Karelin 1841. The genus name selected by him Perovskia reminiscent of the Russian general and governor of the province of Orenburg, Lew Perovsky Alexeyevich ( 1792-1856 ).

According to Flora of China about seven types are distinguished, in the Plant List the following nine types are specified:

  • Fiederschnittige Perowskie ( Perovskia abrotanoides Kar ): The home is deröstliche Iran to Tibet.
  • Perovskia angustifolia Kudryas. Home is Central Asia.
  • Perovskia artemisioides Boiss. , The home is the southern Iran and Pakistan.
  • Silver Perowskie ( Perovskia atriplicifolia Benth. ): The range extends from Afghanistan to China.
  • Perovskia botschantzevii Kovalevsk. & Kochk. The range extends from Afghanistan to Central Asia.
  • Perovskia kudrjaschevii Gorschk. & Pjataeva: The home is central asia.
  • Perovskia linczevskii Kudryas. The home is Tajikistan.
  • Wrinkled Perowskie ( Perovskia scrophulariifolia Bunge): The home is central asia.
  • Perovskia virgata Kudryas. The home is Tajikistan.

Use

The species are often used as a drought-resistant and summer-flowering shrubs.
