Petar Borota

Petar Borota ( born March 5, 1952 in Belgrade, † February 12, 2010 in Genoa) was a Yugoslav football goalkeeper. Borota won in 1978 with Partizan Belgrade, the Yugoslav national championship and came in 1979 to over 100 appearances for Chelsea.

Career

Borota began his professional career in 1969 at OFK Belgrade and in 1972 goalkeeper of the club. After he missed the 1975/76 season due to his military service, he continued his career in 1976 when giants Partizan Belgrade continued, with whom he won the 1978 national championship. This period also fell four inserts in the Yugoslav national team. On his debut, he came by Substitutes on October 5, 1977 against Hungary and played a month later in a 6-4 win in the World Cup qualifiers against Romania, the only Yugoslav point gain in qualifying. His last international game, he completed almost one year later, on 25 October 1978, when they again met in the European Championship qualifier in Romania and was defeated 2:3.

In March 1979, performed for a fee of 70,000 pounds in exchange for English club Chelsea FC, where he replaced the long-standing goalkeeper Peter Bonetti. There, the extrovert goalkeeper was because of its spectacular excursions outside the Stafraums and unusual parades quickly become firm favorites. After Chelsea were relegated to the Second Division at the end of the 1978/79 season, Borota acted in the following two seasons as goalkeeper of the club and in 1981 voted by the fans to Chelsea's Player of the Year after being in the season 1980/81 16 - had remained times without conceding a goal. When his performance in the 1981/82 season are increasingly varied, he was replaced by coach John Neal in November 1981 by the 17- year-old Steve Francis and left the club at the end of the season.

After a short stay at FC Brentford he let his career following in Portugal end with Portimonense SC, Boavista and FC Porto. Borota died after a long illness, 57 -year-old in Genoa, Italy.
