Peter Bernstein (guitarist)

Peter Bernstein ( born September 3, 1967 in New York City ) is an American guitarist of modern jazz.

Life and work

Bernstein received from the age of eight piano lessons and switched to guitar at age 13, where he first taught the instrument self-taught. He studied at Rutgers University Jazz with Ted Dunbar and Kenny Barron and completed his studies at the New School in New York City, where he also met Jim Hall, with whom he played in 1990 on the JVC Jazz Festival. Since that year he also played as a sideman by Lou Donaldson. He also played with Joshua Redman, Melvin Rhyne, Diana Krall, Larry Goldings, Bill Stewart, Jimmy Cobb, Lee Konitz, Roy Hargrove, Tom Harrell, Joe Lovano, Jack McDuff, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Eric Alexander, Brad Mehldau, Christian McBride Mike LeDonne. In Germany, he also appeared with the trio of Martin Sasse and with Joachim Schoenecker.

So far, Bernstein has worked on over 60 CD recordings and played at numerous festivals and concerts. As a bandleader, he has released five albums on Criss Cross; In 2009 they had one with his trio rehearsed Monk album. 2008 Bernstein member of The Blue Note 7, a company founded by Blue Note Records on the occasion of the 70th birthday .. septet was present, Bernstein works with a quartet of Donald Vega, Dezron Douglas and Billy Drummond.

Peter Bernstein taught at the Juilliard School, Berklee College of Music, North Texas State University, the jazz program of the New School and at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
