Peter Inge, Baron Inge

Peter Anthony Inge, Baron Inge, of Richmond in the County of North Yorkshire KG GCB PC DL (* August 5, 1935 ) is a British Field Marshal, who was most recently from 1994 to 1997 Chief of Defence Staff of the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom and since 1997 as Life peer member of the House of Lords.

Life

Officer and staff officer

After schooling Inge began his military career and entered 1954 as a soldier in the infantry regiment of the Green Howards a in which he, the Federation of Malaya, the Federal Republic of Germany, Libya and Northern Ireland served in Hong Kong. On July 27, 1958, he was promoted to lieutenant. After he was 1960-1961 aide- de-camp of the commander (General Officer Commanding ) of the 4th Infantry Division and was promoted on July 27, 1962 Captain, he served 1963-1964 as Adjutant of the Chief of the 1st Battalion of the Green Howards.

General

After his promotion to brigadier general on 31 December 1979 Inge was between 1979 and 1981 commander of the 4th Armoured Brigade and thus the Task Force C of the Army of the Rhine. Subsequently, he served from 1982 to 1983 as Chief of Staff of the First Corps, and was then on 12 January 1984 to 1986 General Officer Commanding of the North District as well as commander of the 2nd Infantry Division in York. He was also from 1982 to 1994, Colonel of the Green Howards.
