Charles Guthrie, Baron Guthrie of Craigiebank

Charles Ronald Llewelyn Guthrie, Baron Guthrie of Craigiebank, of Craigiebank in the City of Dundee GCB LVO OBE DL ( born November 17 1938) is a British former general, the last from 1997 to 2001 Chief of Defence Staff (Chief of the Defence Staff ) the armed forces of the United Kingdom was and is a life peer member of the House of Lords since 2001.

Life

Officer and staff officer

After attending Harrow School and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst Guthrie joined in 1959 to his military service in the Welsh Guards and was promoted on June 1, 1961 Lieutenant. After uses in the Army of the Rhine and in Aden, he was promoted on July 25, 1965 to Captain and then served as an officer at the 22nd Special Air Service (SAS ) Regiment in Aden, the Persian Gulf, Malaysia and East Africa.
