Michael Boyce, Baron Boyce

Michael Cecil Boyce, Baron Boyce, KG, GCB, OBE, DL ( born April 2, 1943 in Cape Town, South Africa ) is a British former First Sea Lord of the Royal Navy, former Chief of Staff (Chief of the Defence Staff ) and Life Peer.

Career in the Royal Navy

Boyce visited the Hurstpierpoint College and played in 1961 in the Royal Navy. It was used on submarines and eventually became commander of the submarines HMS Oberon and HMS Opossum. In 1965, he was promoted from Acting Sub - Lieutenant Sub - Lieutenant to 1966 he was Lieutenant and Lieutenant Commander in 1974. In the period from 1965 to 1972 he served on submarines Anchorite, Valiant and Conqueror. Boyce was promoted to the rank of Commander in 1976. Membership in the House of Lords

Boyce was appointed Life peer as Baron Boyce, of Pimlico in the City of Westminster in 2003. In the House of Lords he sits as a cross Bencher. He is a member of several special committees. From 2005 to 2006 he was a member of the "European Union Subcommittee C " Foreign Affairs, Defence and Development Policy ( Foreign Affairs, Defence and Development Policy ). 2006 to 2008 he was co-opted member. He was one of several retired Chiefs of Defence Staff, who commented on the issue of criminal prosecution of soldiers before the International Criminal Court in the Upper House. On December 3, 2009, he testified in the Iraq inquiry.

Other offices and honors

1982 Boyce was named in the Queen's Birthday Honours for Officer of the Order of the British Empire ( OBE). In 1995 he was appointed to the New Year Honours for Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath ( KCB ). Boyce was 1999 Freeman of the City of London. He was Knight ( "Knight ") of the Venerable Order of Saint John in 2002. He is a member of the Supervisory Board since 2003 ( "Council") of the " White Ensign Association " and since 2008 its chairman.

Since 2003 he has been President ( "Knight ") of the Officers Association and director of the Naval and Military Club. He is patron of the Submariners Association Also since 2003.
