Peter Truscott, Baron Truscott

Peter Derek Truscott, Baron Truscott of St James's in the City of Westminster ( born March 20, 1959 in Newton Abbot, Devon ) is a Labour Party politician, who was a member of the European Parliament between 1994 and 1999 and since 2004 member of the House of Lords, where he belongs this without a party since 2009. When he was suspended from May to November 2009 by its membership, this was one of the first suspensions of a member of the upper house since the 17th century.

Life

Study, local politicians and MEP

After schooling Truscott began studying the history of science at Exeter College, University of Oxford, which he finished in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts ( BA) in modern history one. He completed a subsequent post-graduate studies in 1985 with a Philosophiae Doctor ( Ph.D. ) from then until 1989 and was active as a political organizer in the party headquarters of the Labour Party.

His political career began in 1988 in local politics when he was elected a member of the Council of the Borough of Colchester, where he remained until 1992. In the general election on 9 April 1992 Truscott unsuccessful candidate for the Labour Party in the constituency of Torbay for a parliamentary seat in the House of Commons.

In the European elections in 1994 he was elected a member of the 4th European Parliament and belonged to this until 1999. During this time he was in the years 1995, 1996, 1999, and later in 2003 election observers of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe ( OSCE) and between 1997 and 1999 Member of the Subcommittee on Interior and Foreign Policy of the National Executive Committee of the Labour Party.

Upper House member, " Cash for Influence" affair and temporary suspension as upper house member

On 10 June 2004 Truscott was raised as a life peer with the title Baron Truscott of St James's in the City of Westminster ' to the peerage, and has since been a member of the House of Lords.

During this time he was between 2005 and 2006, first connecting member of the upper house to the Ministry of Defence and then to June 2007 Parliamentary Under-Secretary of November 2006 at the Ministry of Trade and Industry where he is responsible for energy. Most recently, he was from Juni until November 2007 Parliamentary Secretary ( Whip ) of the Government Group in the House of Lords with the title of Lord in Waiting to HM Household.

Lord Truscott was end of January 2009 convicted of participation in the Cash for Influence affair in the House of Lords.

Here he was, and the upper house members, Lord Snape, Lord Moonie and Lord Taylor accused of Blackburn to have supported proposed legislation or legislative change projects to financial compensation. He confirmed to journalists that companies between £ 25,000 and £ 100,000 it had paid annually. In addition, he was accused that he took a year £ 28,000 of taxpayers' money to fund his £ 700,000 expensive primary residence in Mayfair to complete. Furthermore, it was found that he has other properties, including Russia, the homeland of his wife. Subsequently, he and Lord Taylor of Blackburn were suspended from May to November 2009 by its membership in the House of Lords, this was the first suspensions of Lords since the 17th century.

He has since resigned in May 2009 from the Labour Party, he belongs to the House of Lords on now without a party.
