Peter Underwood

Peter Underwood ( born October 10, 1937 in the UK ) since 2008, Governor of Tasmania. Previously, he was a judge at the Supreme Court of Tasmania, the Supreme Court of Tasmania, most recently as its president.

Life

Underwood was born in 1937 in the UK and emigrated with his family to Australia in 1950. After service in the Royal Australian Navy in 1960, he completed a law degree from the University of Tasmania from and worked in a law firm. In 1984 he was appointed judge of the Supreme Court of Tasmania. In addition, Underwood practiced teaching at various universities, including at the University of Tasmania, from which he received in 2001 an honorary doctorate. He was appointed by Elizabeth II to Officer of the Order of Australia, 2009 Companion of the Order of Australia in 2002.

In March 2008, he was the Prime Minister of Tasmania, Paul Lennon, proposed as the next governor and sworn in on April 2.

Underwood is married and has four children.
