Phantom Blue

Phantom Blue is an all-women heavy metal band from Hollywood, California. It exists in various formations since 1988.

Band History

Michelle Meldrum (guitar), Gigi Hangach (vocals ), Nicole Couch (guitar), Debra Armstrong (bass) and Linda McDonald ( drums) founded Phantom Blue 1988. The only demo was released in the same year and aroused the interest of Shrapnel Records. Shortly before the conclusion of the contract they parted from Armstrong and Kim Nielsen joined the band. The first single Why Call It Love? a music video was filmed. The corresponding self-titled debut album was recorded with Marty Friedman, who also inter alia to involved in the songwriting. In Europe the album through Roadrunner Records appeared. It sold satisfactory and the band got a pretty big following.

Egged on by the first successes, they decided to switch the management and got a new record deal with major label Geffen Records. Built to Perform, the second album, so was not published until 1993, because the work was delayed repeatedly by the contract negotiations. Max Norman, who, inter alia, already worked for Ozzy Osbourne, Megadeth and loudness, took over the production. Great Expectations could not meet and so the band lost its contract again the album.

After the album, occupation problems, which ensure that the next album Prime Cuts & Glazed Donuts from the original line-up only drummer Linda McDonald and singer Gigi Hangach remain develop. Michelle Meldrum moved to Sweden, where they founded their own band Meldrum. She died on 21 May 2008 to a cyst in the brain, whose sudden bleeding could not be stopped.

Gigi Hangach took until 1997 Sangesposten and is also on the live album Caught Live (1997) to hear. After the line-up finally breaks apart and only in 2000 since there is a stable line, the EP Full Blown previously published and regularly plays live.

Linda McDonald is also in a cover band The Iron Maidens active, which describes itself as "the world's only female tribute to Iron Maiden ."
