Philip I, Count of Schaumburg-Lippe

Count Philip I of Lippe - Alverdissen ( born July 18, 1601 Brake Castle in Lemgo, † April 10, 1681 in Hagen ) and from 1647, Count of Schaumburg -Lippe. He was the progenitor of the House of Schaumburg -Lippe.

Life

Philip I was the youngest son of Count Simon VI. of Lippe (1555-1613) and his second wife Countess Elisabeth von Holstein - Schaumburg.

After the death of his father he received in 1613 as appanage the offices Lipperode and Alverdissen. In 1640 he inherited from his sister, Countess Elisabeth von Holstein - Schaumburg (she was the mother of the last Count of Schaumburg, Otto V ) a part of the county with the Schaumburg offices Hagen, Biickeburg, Ahrensburg and Hagen castle. This territory led from now on the name of County of Schaumburg -Lippe.

Marriage and issue

In 1644 he married in the city of Hagen Countess Sophie of Hesse- Kassel, daughter of Landgrave Moritz of the scholars of Hesse-Kassel and his wife Juliana of Nassau- Dillenburg.
