Philip James de Loutherbourg

Philipp Jakob Loutherbourg the Younger ( born October 31, 1740 in Strasbourg, † March 11, 1812 in Chiswick, near London; Philippe -Jacques de Loutherbourg also ) was a British- French painter, etcher and aquatint engraver.

Life

Loutherbourg was the son of the engraver Philipp Jakob Loutherbourg the Elder, from which he also received his first art lessons. In the fall of 1764 Loutherbourg went to Paris and became a pupil of Francesco Casanova, Cesar van Loo and Johann Heinrich Tischbein. Funded by his teachers Loutherbourg was recorded in 1768 at the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture, and later a member of the Academy of Arts of Marseille.

1771 Loutherbourg by actor David Garrick to London at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane was brought. He unfolded there as a stage painter a range of activities and soon acquired a considerable reputation as a painter. In 1781 he became a member of the Royal Academy.

Loutherbourg was a follower and friend Alessandro Cagliostro. He died on March 11, 1812 in Chiswick, near London.

His engravings, including Bauer representations ( 6 sheets), soldiers representations (12 sheets), the times of day (1 episode, 4 leaves), as well as single sheets with landscapes, marine, animal figures and cartoons, etc. are greatly appreciated.
