Philip, Landgrave of Hesse-Philippsthal

Philip of Hesse - Philippsthal ( born December 14, 1655 in Kassel, † June 18, 1721 in Aachen ) was from 1663 to 1721, Landgrave of Hesse- Philippsthal out of the house of Hesse.

Life

Philip was the third son of the Landgrave William VI. of Hesse- Kassel and his wife Hedwig Sophie of Brandenburg.

Philip founded the Hessian page Hessen- Philippstal without sovereignty. In his father's will, he was only concerned with a pension. From the legacy of his mother, he received, among other half of the castle and Erbvogtei Barchfeld.

In 1678 he received from his brother Charles, after the extinction of the family of Wersebe, castle and estate Herleshausen first as a fief, and finally as a possession. In 1683 Philip took part in the Battle of Kahlenberg. To establish a permanent residence Philipp was the former Kreuzberg Monastery ( or cross castle ) was assigned on the Werra, where he built the castle in 1685 Philippstal.

Progeny

On April 16, 1680 Philip married in Kassel Katharina Amalie ( 1654-1736 ), daughter of Count Karl Otto of Solms - Laubach, with whom he had the following children:
