William, Landgrave of Hesse-Philippsthal-Barchfeld

Wilhelm of Hesse- Philippsthal - Barchfeld ( born April 1, 1692 in Philippstal, † May 13, 1761 in Breda ) was Landgrave of Hesse - Philippsthal - Barchfeld out of the house of Hesse.

Life

William was a younger son of the Landgrave Philip of Hesse - Philippsthal from his marriage to Katharina Amalie (1654-1736), daughter of Count Karl Otto of Solms - Laubach.

Wilhelm founded in 1721 after the death of his father, who had assigned him in his will Barchfeld and Herleshausen as Paragium, the Hessian page Hessen- Philippstal - Barchfeld without sovereignty. From 1690 to 1732 he was invested in Barchfeld named after him Baroque Castle William Castle.

First, in Hesse, later in the Dutch military service, he was Governor of Ypres in 1732. A year after his appointment as lieutenant general of cavalry he led in 1743, the Dutch troops in the War of Austrian Succession. In 1744 he was surrendered to the French in Ypres. He fought in the Battle of Fontenoy and defended Bergen op Zoom and Mons. He became General of Cavalry in 1747 and died as Governor of Breda.

William married on 31 October 1724 in Hoym Princess Charlotte Wilhelmine ( 1704-1766 ), daughter of Prince Lebrecht of Anhalt- Bernburg - Hoym, with whom he had the following children:
