Philippe of Alençon

Philip II of Alençon (French Philippe d' Alençon; * 1338 or 1339; † August 16, 1397 in Rome) was a French cardinal.

Life

Was Philip II of Alençon in 1338 or 1339 as the second son of Charles II of Alençon, brother of King Philip VI. of France, and María de la Cerda, daughter of Ferdinand II de la Cerda, was born. 1356 he was appointed Bishop of Beauvais, in 1359 Archbishop of Rouen and 1375 the Patriarch of Jerusalem. On September 18, 1378 he was appointed by Pope Urban VI. appointed cardinal.

His appointment as Patriarch of Aquileia in 1381 led to riots in Friuli, so that he in 1388 by Pope Boniface IX. were dismissed from his post and was appointed bishop of Ostia.

Philip died on August 16, 1397 in Rome. He was buried in his titular church of Santa Maria in Trastevere.
