The long handle Lige Rose Woodruff ( Phuopsis stylosa ) is the only species in the genus Rose Woodruff or sham Woodruff ( Phuopsis ).

Features

The long handle Lige Rose Woodruff is a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches the stature heights of 15 to 20 centimeters. The stem is prostrate to ascending. The leaves are linear to narrowly elliptic, and 12 to 30 millimeters long. They are each to sixth to ninth arranged in a whorl. The crown is pink or rarely white, fragrant and 12 to 15 millimeters long. The stylus protrude beyond the corolla tube also.

The flowering period extends from June to August.

Occurrence

The long handle Lige Rose Woodruff occurs in scrub and forest edges, in clearings and on rocky corridors in the Caucasus and Iran.

Use

The long handle Lige Rose Woodruff is rarely used as a ground cover ornamental plant for rock gardens and borders. The species is in cultivation since at least 1836. There are known several species. The plant needs in the garden a sunny to half shady, dry location with a sandy bottom. It can be propagated by division and seed.

The long handle Lige Rose Woodruff is the only species of the genus Phuopsis ( Griseb. ) Hook. f. Rubiinae This is in subtribe of the tribe Rubieae in the subfamily Rubioideae Verdc. from the family of Rubiaceae ( Rubiaceae ).
