Piero De Bernardi

Piero De Bernardi ( born April 12, 1926 in Prato, Italy, † January 8, 2010 in Milan, Italy ) was an Italian screenwriter. In the course of his many years of work he has been involved in over 120 productions.

Biography

Piero De Bernardi was born in 1926 in the town of Prato in Tuscany, Italy.

Throughout his career, De Benardi frequently collaborated with Leo Benvenuti, with whom he formed a successful duo authors.

In 1953 he worked on his first film when he wrote the screenplay for the film The temple treasure of Bengal, together with Gian Paolo Callegari. This was on the 18th of December the same year his debut in Italy, where he ran under the original title Il tesoro del Bengala; in Germany was not performed until 1958. It was followed by two more films in 1954, including the black devil of Romangai. In the following years he worked on various projects with a screenwriter, so he had in 1959 written the screenplays for 15 films already; In 1958 he was awarded the Nastro d' Argento for Best Screenplay for the film Guendalina, taking the prize with his partner and two other authors Benvenuti, Alberto Lattuada and Valerio Zurlini, shared. On April 12, 1960 his daughter Isabella De Bernardi was born, who appeared later as an actress in various films.

In the following decades, De Bernardi was involved in more than 100 films as a screenwriter. He gained four more times the Nastro d' Argento: he was awarded with Nino Manfredi and Benevuti for Per grazia ricevuta 1972 and 1976 with Tullio Pinelli, and Benvenuti Pietro Germi for An incredible reunion. Also in 1982, he received his trusted partner Benevuti and the team of authors with Tullio Pinelli, with whom he had already written the script for An incredible class meeting, Bernardino Zapponi and Mario Monicelli, the Nastro d' Argento for the film The foolhardy tricks of the Marchese del Grillo, followed in 1986, the fifth award for Let's hope it's a girl. In the 90 years he was able to win with Al lupo, al lupo one last time the Nastro d' Argento, 2003, he was nominated, but failed.

Even with other award ceremonies De Bernardi could be successful, so he won three times in four nominations David di Donatello: 1977 for the film La stanza del vescovo, 1986 Let's hope it's a girl and 1988 for me and my sister. Again, De Bernardi had worked on all screenplays with Leo Benevuti. For his screenplay for the television series Come quando fuori piove he also received the Golden FIPA.

Shortly before his death he wrote the screenplay for Amici miei - Come tutto ebb inizio and the movie So I Say with Harvey Keitel and Gerard Depardieu. Co -author was there Anusavan Salamanian. On January 8th of 2010 he died in Milan.
