Pierre Contant d'Ivry

Pierre Contant d' Ivry ( born May 11, 1698 in Ivry- sur -Seine, † October 1, 1777 in Paris) was a French architect of the 18th century. He was one of the leading representatives of the Louis XV and Louis XVI.

Life

Pierre Contant d' Ivry in 1728 a member of the Académie royale d'architecture. Later he held the title of architect of the king. He worked for the court and for clients of the nobility, as the Prince de Conti and the Duke of Orléans.

Works

Contant d' Ivry designed important buildings that were unfinished at the beginning of the French Revolution and were completed by different designs.

  • Castle Bizy Vernon (Eure ) ( 1741-43 ); built in sections newly in the 19th and 20th centuries
  • Abbey Penthemont ( 1747 ), completed after Contant d' Ivrys death in reduced form
  • Madeleine completed in Paris ( 1764), changed dramatically after the revolution
  • Abbey Church of Saint -Vaast completed changed dramatically in Arras ( 1770s ), after the revolution
