Pierre Puget

Pierre Puget (* October 16, 1620 in Château- Follet in Marseille, † December 2, 1694 in Marseille) was a French painter (among other things as a marine painter) and sculptor of the Baroque.

Life

He was from 1640 to 1643 in Florence and Rome, where he da Cortona also dedicated himself to painting under Pietro. He was involved in the decoration of the Palazzo Pitti, but soon returned to France. He went to Toulon and Marseille, was the official painter of both cities and painted in the 1650s, numerous altarpieces for churches in southern France. Then he went back to Rome and from 1661 to 1668 and 1670 to Genoa, where he trained his son Francois at his friend with him Giovanni Battista Castiglione. During this time the painting by Anthony van Dyck and Guido Reni won influence on him. In 1669 he went back to Toulon, where he was director of the ship ornaments on the royal yard. In 1679 he left the yard and laid mainly on landscape drawings and mythological topics ( Achilles and the Kentar Chiron, 1685, Marseille, Musée des Beaux -Arts ). Most recently, he was influenced by Claude Lorrain and Gaspard Dughet. He died in 1694 in Marseille.

Work
