Pierre van Maldere

Pieter (Pierre) van Maldere ( born October 16, 1729 Brussels, † November 1, 1768 ) was a Belgian violinist and composer of the pre-classical period.

Life

About youth van Malderres little has survived, he probably took his first violin and composition lessons from the Kapellmeister of the court orchestra Jean -Joseph Fiocco and Henri -Jacques de Croes. From 1749 van Maldere worked at the court of general governor of the Habsburg Netherlands Charles Alexander of Lorraine as a violinist. In the years 1751-1753 he worked in Dublin as director of the " Philarmonick Concerts". In August 1754 he performed in Paris at the Concert Spirituel. He accompanied his masters on numerous trips, including to Prague and Vienna, where his first two opere buffe were listed in Schönbrunn Palace. 1758 he was appointed chamberlain of the Prince, this gave him 1763 for a period of seven years, the management of the Monnaie Theatre, which ended three years later for van Maldere in a financial disaster. At the Monnaie he was primarily responsible for the choice of repertoire, the musical director of his own and French operas.

Works

While holding the first chamber works on late Baroque style and the influence Arcangelo Corelli, without compromising on newer game technical achievements such complicated double handles, interval jumps or broken chords in the upper voice. His symphonies form historically and aesthetically a transition from the Italian or the early Mannheim School of classical Viennese symphony. While the first symphonies are pure strings works, come 1764 obbligato horns and oboes added.

  • 3 Trios for Harpsichord, Violin and Cello op.7 were published posthumously in 1774 and 1778 respectively by his brother Guillaume van Maldere.
