Pietro Bertani

Pietro Bertano O.P. (* November 4, 1501 in Nonantola, † March 8, 1558 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Catholic Church.

From an upstanding family from Modena to arise, he entered the Dominican Order, where he was instructed by Tommaso Badia. He was an important theologian and also taught at Bologna, Ferrara and Venice. He was Ercole Gonzaga's personal theologian, since he could have a great knowledge especially on Augustine and Thomas.

He became in 1537 Bishop of Fano, served the Pope on a diplomatic mission and was involved in the reform work of the Council of Trent. Even Pope Paul III. had provided him for the dignity of Cardinal, but since he died, he was only on November 20, 1551 under Julius III. Cardinal Priest of Santi Marcellino e Pietro al Laterano appointed.
