Pirojpur District

Pirojpur ( Bengali: পিরোজপুর জেলা, Pirojapur Jela ) is an administrative district in southwest Bangladesh, which lies within the Barisal Division.

The 1307.61 km ² large district is bordered to the north by the districts of Gopalganj and Barisal, on the east by Jhalokathi, to the south Barguna and to the west the district of Bagerhat.

The main rivers are the Baleshwar, Katcha, Kaliganga and Sandhya.

Pirojpur is divided into the six so-called Upazilas Bhandria, Kawkhali, Mathbaria, Nazirpur, Pirpjpur Sadar and Nesarabad. Within this administrative subdivision there are 51 Union Parishads (village councils), 645 villages and three cities.

The largest city in the district is the city founded in 1886, Pirojpur in which more than 50,000 inhabitants.
